THE PW COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM

The Proprioceptive Writing® (PW) Comprehensive Program is designed to give participants extensive personal experience with the proprioceptive method and a solid grasp of its intellectual underpinnings. Some embark on the comprehensive program because they wish to teach PW. Others take individual courses within the program in the interest of their own personal growth. Either way, this program can enliven your mind and increase your understanding of yourself and others.

Courses in the program may be taken privately, semi-privately, or in small groups.

— Before Beginning Courses in the Comprehensive Program —

The more you sink into the practice of PW and experience its effects personally, the more meaningful this program of studies will be. For this reason, applicants are asked to have personal experience with PW including:

  • A 5-day PW Immersion with PW’s Founder, Linda Trichter Metcalf

  • Exploring the Basics of PW (two 6-week series)

They have taught me, and will continue to teach me, how PW works and how to touch people's lives with this wonderful tool. PW has changed my life in many ways. I am very happy to be able to introduce this powerful method to others.”

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Four Courses in Theory and Practice

These courses are invaluable to PW instructors who want to enrich their teaching.

Each course introduces participants to ideas about consciousness that emerged from PW practice.

“I’ve taken all of these courses, and more than once. They are intellectually stimulating and personally enlightening. You don’t just get handed a bunch of new ideas, you think about them for yourself, through your own experience, in Writes. This process has changed the way I think, for the better!”

—  Carol C.,  PW Practitioner

  • How the Mind Knows Itself, A Theory of Mental Proprioception

  • Sense of Self and the Mother Dance

  • Social Factors Shaping Consciousness

  • Hearing Writes Proprioceptively

Four Courses in Theory and Practice and are required for instructors who wish to enter the PW Teaching Apprenticeship.

THE PW TEACHING APPRENTICESHIP

Learning to respond to Writes proprioceptively is, like the practice of any art, a life-long process accompanied by immense personal growth. The PW Teaching Apprenticeship is designed to support and mentor new teachers as they begin to respond more fully to Writes.

“Having an experienced PW mentor to consider my student’s Writes with has made all the difference. You can hear and read a Write many times, have all kind of thoughts about it, but it’s not until you discuss the Write with your mentor that you start to understand, on another whole level, how miraculously wonderful this writing method really is and how careful and exact you need to be in your response to Writes.”

—Wies Enthoven, PWCenter faculty

PW instructors who have completed Four Courses in Theory and Practice may apply. Those accepted exhibit expertise as instructors as well as personal agency in organizing and teaching their own classes.

Apprenticeship Structure

Apprentices organize and teach PW sessions under the guidance of a PWCenter faculty mentor. Between teaching sessions, apprentices meet one-on-one with their mentor. They engage in comprehensive consideration of the Writes and formulate responses to them.

Apprentice teachers arrange for mentoring sessions with PWCenter Faculty on their own time frame.

The PWCenter graduates apprentices on the basis of readiness. Graduates become PWCenter Teachers qualified to respond to Writes in full according to the proprioceptive method.
