The Sense of Self and the Mother Dance (Copy)

“This course gave me a whole new way to think about my mother and myself

— Grace Keefe, writer, PW practitioner

We’ve been dancing with our mothers since we were born. They are what we cling to and what we run from. We are defined, blessed, and haunted by this relationship, and until we make peace with it, we are never fully ourselves.

This 8-week PW workshop offers a deep dive into the perception of the mother-figure and how it shapes us. It brings radical new thinking to this initial communication system, which kickstarts the stories we tell about ourselves. The series grew out of hearing thousands of Writes, where the mother inevitably appears, and can block access to our inner knowing.

Led by Linda Trichter Metcalf, author of Writing the Mind Alive, these weekly, 2-hour sessions are held over Zoom. Participants use Writes to think about the material presented in the course, getting personal with their experience of their own mother-figure. Previous experience with Proprioceptive Writing is required.
